Compelled: A Century of Faith, Love, and Sacrifice

A 100TH ANNIVERSARY FILM

The largest project we have completed to date, which was just released a few weeks ago, was for a missions-sending organization called Christian Missions in Many Lands, or CMML. Though Jim Elliot is probably the most famous CMML missionary, thousands of other CMML missionaries have served in over 150 countries. To celebrate their 100th anniversary this year, we were hired to work with Craig Fritchey to compile interviews and b-roll footage from many of these missionaries into one 20-minute film that would tell some of their stories. If you would like to read more about some of the details of my work on the film, keep reading.

YEARS OF FOOTAGE

It was an honor to have access to a treasure trove of CMML’s archived footage. Craig and I spent hours and hours pouring through the interviews, footage for b-roll, and photos and did our best to cut it down and organize it in a way that would use several select stories to represent the countless stories that couldn’t fit in the film.

FILMING NEW FOOTAGE

Not everything in the film was archived footage. I had hoped to do a lot more shooting of interviews, but because of COVID-19, we were limited. Craig interviewed some people via Zoom, but there were a few portions of the film that I was actually able to shoot myself. The opening clips of Micah Tuttle and his full interview, as well as the interview of John Kinlaw, were all shot at Shannon Hills Bible Chapel.

SEEING BEHIND THE SCENES

As a videographer, I am privileged to be able to step into different organizations and to be given access to really see behind-the-scenes of their work, giving me a unique perspective to view the good they have been doing in our world for longer than I have been alive. It is an honor that I am thankful for every time I am hired for a project with a group like this, and I hope there are many more to come.
